SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD: High Speed and Resistance

Carrying an external memory on top and anywhere is not always easy. But SanDisk has the perfect accessory for your space needs. It’s the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, an off-road external memory with breakneck speeds. All this in a small flash drive that fits in the palm of your hand and is also prepared for the present and future of the connection ports.

We’ve been testing this disk for the last few weeks and this is our analysis.

Incredible size and stamina

As soon as you open the box and remove the Extreme Portable SSD from SanDisk, we’ll wonder if it really stores 250GB (or whatever we’ve purchased) of space inside. The size is minuscule and weighs only 41 grams. It fits in the palm of your hand and its surface is coated with a sturdy plastic. Rubber from the bottom to prevent it from slipping.

The design is very compact, which contributes to memory resistance. According to SanDisk, we are faced with an accessory capable of withstanding:

  • Outdoor rain.
  • Splashing.
  • A stream of water for 3 minutes.
    Dust.
  • Drops of 2 meters high against cement.
  • Operating temperature between -20oC and 70oC.

It is clear that this is a disc designed for professional outdoor use. Withstand scan tassels that may occur while we’re out in the open.

Top speed of 550MB/s anywhere

From SanDisk’s promotional material, it’s clear that the Extreme Portable SSD is designed for outdoor photographers. As we have seen, this flash drive is able to withstand adverse conditions perfectly. Now we just need to know how fast it is. In our tests, we have achieved a speed above 500MB/s, very close to the 550MB/s that the company claims.

-The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is ready for the present and future of USB ports-

Finally, it’s worth talking about the ports. We are in the midst of transitioning to a USB-C world, slower than expected. The new MacBook Pro and the rest of Apple’s Mac range (except for a few exceptions) feature this built-in port. If it’s not your case and you come across a computer that still maintains USB-A, don’t worry.

SanDisk has the solution in the form of a small USB-C to USB-A adapter through which you can connect it to any Mac. This adapter also maintains the speeds of the second generation USB 3.1 protocol, so you won’t lose speed when you place it (as long as your Mac is compatible). The cable for connection is quite comfortable as it measures about 15cm long.

In short, and at the price that this accessory is on sale, it is a great SSD for those who need to work outdoors and at full speed with their Mac.

Hopefully this information will help you!!!
